Cognitive Psychology in Information Architecture

What do information architecture and cognitive psychology have in common? There’s actually a fair deal of common ground between these two disciplines. Firstly, both of them are concerned with mental processes and how to to support those processes.

Here’s a post that looks into this:

Cognitive Psychology is a research area.
Information Architecture is a practice area.
The former is a data point to inform the latter. So do sociology, anthropology, economics, behavioral psychology, information science, information visualization, rhetoric, narrative, etc… Further IA is in a dialectic relationship with other practice areas like interaction design, usability engineering, human factors, graphic design, etc.
